RIDGEHAT STORIES

The Ridge Where It All Began
Built by hand. Tested by the wild.

The West isn’t just a place—it’s a way of life. Raw, unforgiving, and unapologetically free. This is the land that shaped RIDGEHAT.

Our story starts in 1987, high in the Colorado Rockies, where the wind never sleeps and the weather shifts by the minute. Founder Jake Cole spent his days riding fence lines, herding cattle, and hiking ridges where ordinary hats didn’t stand a chance. They blew away, lost shape, or fell apart when you needed them most.

So Jake built something better.

In his small workshop, with tools handed down from his father, he reimagined what a mountain hat could be: a reinforced brim to cut wind and glare, a structured crown that holds its shape, and heavy-duty wool felt that repels rain, sun, and dust. He called it Ridge—after the peaks that tested it, and the spirit that inspired it.

RIDGEHAT was born not as a fashion piece, but as a tool for the wild. For the rancher, the hiker, the fisherman, the explorer who lives where the pavement ends.

This isn’t just our history. It’s our promise:

Every hat we make is built to earn its place on your head—and in your story.
Craft That Stands the Test of Time
From raw wool to finished hat—honoring the hands that build it.

A great hat isn’t made. It’s forged—by time, by skill, and by respect for the land it serves.

At RIDGEHAT, we believe quality lives in the details. Every hat starts with premium all-wool felt—dense enough to block sun, thick enough to shed rain, and resilient enough to hold its shape for years. No shortcuts, no cheap blends, no compromises.

The process is slow, intentional, and almost entirely done by hand:

  • Blocking & Shaping: Each crown is stretched and molded to hold its profile through wind, sweat, and seasons.
  • Brim Reinforcement: Double-stitch edges and internal support so the brim stays firm, never floppy.
  • Finishing: Hand-burnished edges, durable leather sweatbands, and brass hardware built to outlast the elements.

We don’t make hats for a season. We make them for a lifetime of ridges, trails, and open skies.

When you put on a RIDGEHAT, you’re not just wearing a hat—you’re wearing craft, commitment, and the quiet pride of something built to last.

How to Wear Your RIDGEHAT
A RIDGEHAT isn’t only for the trail—it’s made for where wilderness meets everyday life. Wear it naturally, not just as an accessory.

The Ranch & Range Look
Match your RIDGEHAT with a rugged flannel, vintage denim and leather boots. Finished with a leather belt and silver buckle for timeless Western charm rooted in wild land.

The Modern Explorer
Pair it with a canvas jacket, basic tee, dark jeans and casual leather footwear. A clean city-to-trail style, effortless and ready for any adventure.

The Evening Western
Dress up with a crisp button-down, dark trousers and Chelsea boots. Let the hat be the focal point—understated, sleek and full of personality.

Fit & Confidence
Wear it snug yet comfortable above the ears, with a neat brim. Own your look naturally, as if the hat belongs to you.

A RIDGEHAT does more than finish an outfit. It shapes your style—raw, genuine, and unapologetically authentic.
Meet the Maker: Life on the Ridge
Early mornings, open ranges, and the quiet rhythm of wild country.

To understand RIDGEHAT, you have to understand the life it was made for.

We spend our days where the air is thin and the views are endless: riding trails at sunrise, checking fences at dusk, and working with the land—not against it. It’s a life of hard work, quiet moments, and a deep respect for the elements.

This is the rhythm that shapes every hat we build:

  • Sunrise: Coffee, saddle up, and head out. The hat goes on first—blocking glare, cutting wind, keeping the sun off your neck.
  • Midday: Heat, dust, and sudden rain. The hat stays on. It breathes, it sheds water, it holds its shape.
  • Sunset: Ride back, clean up, and tip your hat to the day. It’s scuffed, faded, and yours—a record of where you’ve been.

We don’t make hats for Instagram. We make them for real days, real work, and real adventures.

This is the life of the ridge. This is the spirit of RIDGEHAT.

Where will your ridge take you?
